How To Let Things Go From A Chronic Worrier.

It doesn’t matter if you’re an over-thinker, a chronic worrier or just someone who stays calm, everyone can relate to the feeling of not be able to/ not wanting to let things go. When something has really got you down and made you upset/ sad it can be hard to move past things so quickly and leave it alone. Something that I’ve been told I do a lot of recently is worrying about little things and then not being able to let go of these things that make me worry so much, as a female I tend to over-think and dwell on most things in general anyway, this isn’t really a fun way to live your life and can really impact on friendships and relationships. So, if you’re similar to me and have a tendency to overthink and worry but then not let them go then here’s the blog post for you.
Worrying more won’t change the outcome.
Once I start worrying I somehow end up convincing myself that the more I worry then maybe it’ll change the situation, but it never does. Worrying yourself into a state won’t help anyone, all it’s going to do it make the situation harder and last for longer. I know how tempting it can be to sit and just imagine the worst possibilities but from personal experience I’ve learned that never helps, all it does is make the situation bigger than it needed to be. To stop myself from doing this I usually just try to either think about other things or do something that needs my full attention e.g. baking.
Don’t feel bad about worrying.
If like me you’re an over-thinker/ worrier you’ll know how annoying it is to be asked the same question which is “Why do you worry so much?” or “Why are you worried?” a small amount of worry is normal and nothing to be sorry about, even if you do worry more than the average person that’s still nothing you should have to apologise for. No one enjoying worrying especially with how much people tend to judge you because of this, no two peoples minds work the same and that’s fine.
Most people will understand.
I know what it’s like to be in a deep spiral of worry and overthinking and completely forget that there are people out there who completely understand how you feel. It’s easy to feel alone and think there’s something wrong with you but I can guarantee that the thoughts you’re having someone else has had them. Finding the right people that understand you isn’t easy but once you do it’ll make life a whole easier, this helps connect you to people with similar mindsets.
Control the things you can control.
Something that usually helps me when it comes to worrying is knowing that there are going to be something that I’m not going to be able to control. I will 100% admit that I am a huge control freak and I like to be in control as much as possible. But as humans we can’t physically control everything that is going to happen to us in life, sometimes this is hard to deal with but it’s important not to allow yourself to get swamped up in it.
