Many of us will go through life waiting for something to happen. We dream.
We go to bed at night and see ourselves living the life we’ve always wanted to live, doing things we’ve always wanted to do. Some of us it’s going out and travelling the world, for others it’s going to university and having a successful career.
The morning comes and we open our eyes to the idea that ‘dreams don’t come true’ and this is where it all begins. It’s the smallest thought, one tiny limited thought can crush your biggest dream. The thought that for some reason you don’t have what it takes, you’re not good enough or you’re just too late.
You can call it fear, doubt or lack of motivation. We often fail to accept the fact that we are the only ones responsible for our lives and in return our own happiness.
The good ones.
First things first, you need to have self-belief. Period. You could have the most supportive, loving and caring friends telling you how amazing you are every day, but if you don’t believe in yourself it doesn’t matter. Being motivated is something only you can do, no one else can motivate you if you don’t want to try. Once you break away from the negative energy and find friends that believe in you, who are loving and supportive you can start believing in yourself more.
Words like “things like that don’t happen to people like us.” or “I doubt you’ll get anywhere, but you know, good luck” can be discouraging to most and dishearting to all. Words like this can discourage someone from wanting to talk about future plans or life goals. How can you really support and encourage one another? If you can’t talk about your dreams with those who are closest to.
Everyone else’s business.
Everyone else’s business is everyone else’s business. In this age of your mobile phone is like a third arm and baby boomers are making 5 digits per month, it’s easy to see how everyone can know everything about you. From Instagram models to TV celebs it’s easy to start comparing yourself to others, look at their life in comparison to mine. As I learnt very quickly social media is a lie, the life you see on someone’s Instagram isn’t the life they live in real life, its the glorified version of it.
Instead of focusing on other peoples lives its time to chase your own dreams, realize that we all have our own and path. You’ll end up so busy working on your own grass, that you don’t have time to notice someone else’s might be greener.
In order to chase your dreams, you sometimes need to believe in the impossible, and you need to quit making excuses. You don’t see Beyonce a happy and successful woman say things like: “well… I might try that song, but what’s the point, it won’t sell anyway.” You have as many hours in the day as Beyonce.
It doesn’t matter what your dream is, whether its something big like graduating from university or starting a business or just something small like learning a new skill or making a new friend. You need to believe that you are capable of making your dreams become a reality, your past experiences, the opinions of others or your IQ shouldn’t stop you from taking a chance and believing that if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything.
Over the years I’ve realised that dreaming, but not doing, is just wishing. I just can’t wait for the perfect moment or opportunity to come my way I need to act on my desires and chase my dreams, until they become reality.
